Master Class: Crumb Rubber in Asphalt

Crumb rubber from end-of-life tyres in asphalt and seals has a long history of good performance in Australia. This Tyre Stewardship Australia supported Master Class brings an additional perspective on international practise, performance and the fundamentals behind the use of crumb rubber in asphalt.

Key international crumb rubber expert Brandon Milar, Director of Technical services at the California Asphalt Pavement Association (CALAPA) will lead the Master Class and share his knowledge on the use of crumb rubber in asphalt.

The Master Class will be followed by lunch and visit to the Tyrecycle recycling plant in 1/21 Grady Cres, Erskine Park. https://tyrecycle.com.au/

WHAT WILL BE COVERED?

  • Best practices in the use of Asphalt with crumb rubber
  • Rehabilitation of deteriorated concrete pavement and overlay with asphalt (crack and seat)

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Paving contractors, asphalt producers, equipment manufacturers and distributors, anyone with an interest in the use of crumb rubber in asphalt, sustainability or road construction.

Visitors procedure

  • External visitors will need to go to the Transport Concierge team located on the Sky Lobby (podium level 1, up the escalators behind the ground floor base building concierge team) of 4 Parramatta Square to get a temporary visitor pass for base building access. They should be able to proceed to Level 11 and I’ll meet the visitors on up there.
  • Visitors pre-registration is recommended to save time with entering all their details with Concierge on the day. Su Tao will send more details when this is set up.

Brandon Milar – Technical Director at CALAPA ( California Asphalt Pavement Association)

Brandon Milar is a licensed Civil Engineer in California who currently serves as the Director of Technical Services for the California Asphalt Pavement Association (CalAPA). Mr. Milar received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. In his current role, he works with the asphalt pavement industry and owner/agencies throughout California with the development of asphalt pavement standards, the training of technical personnel, and the research of new pavement technologies. For over 25 years, Mr. Milar has provided technical support for processing aggregates, designing, and testing of asphalt mixes, constructing asphalt pavements, and implementing innovative pavement technologies. When not working on “all things asphalt” he enjoys the exploration of the National Parks in the western U.S., golfing, photography, and sharing a meal with friends and family.
