The overall idea of IC technology is to utilise intelligent compaction measurement values (ICMVs) for estimating the density of an asphalt layer in real time during compaction. Although many field demonstration projects were undertaken in the past two decades, an acceptable correlation between asphalt density and ICMVs has not yet been achieved. This presentation will highlight the key practical innovations achieved in SPARC Project 5.1, including a new approach that maximises the benefits of the current IC technology for QA/QC of asphalt compaction.
